Recent Project - Sandstone Cellar

A unique project we recently completed was to construct a Sandstone Cellar on a private property at Killarney. Included in the contruction were two large Arches, one of which was free-standing. Details inside the cellar include a large sandstone table and a wine glass themed washbasin.

Congratulations to our Stonemason, Daniel Gill! Daniel entered the Swell Scuplture Festival 2010 with his sandstone carving, 'Swoop', and won several awards and acquisitions, including the 'Gold Coast City Council Acquisition', the 'Currumbin Palm Beach RSL Kids' Choice Award', the 'Jennie Neumann OAM Emerging Artist Award', and the 'Swell Smalls Gallery People's Choice Award'!

His entry (see pic above) was a beautiful carving of a Manta Ray and his 'friends'. We are very proud to have Daniel as our head stonemason at Ablatio!

Ablatio - Suppliers of Quality Sandstone

Ablatio supply sandstone as:

• blocks cut from the quarry for processing by domestic and export customers
• simple and complex profile for building and landscaping
• cut slabs, step treads, blocks and billets
• tumbled rock in various sizes
• boulder wall material.

The sandstone from the Ablatio Quarry comprises hard and massive, predominantly fine to coarse grained sandstone, and varies in colours from caramel browns, salt and pepper, lavender to pink and white stone. Ablatio sandstone is a hard stone mined in the Helidon region of South West Queensland.

The sandstone from our quarry, is not layered in bands as is most sedimentary rock, but in swirls and circles. This natural rock formation and colour allows us to have a competitive advantage over other suppliers of sandstone, even those on the other side of the hill at Helidon. Our colour is sought after for many end uses including cladding on up-market residential developments in China.

The stone is ideal for use in building as blocks, tiles, pavers, landscape, complex and simple profiling, sculpting and agregate. Two computer controlled wire saws are in operation.
