How to lay pavers
Laying pavers is easy. Start by marking your footprints on the goat track and that is where you centre your pavers.

About Us

The QuarryAblatio Pty Ltd is the holder of a sandstone quarry lease in the Helidon area. This quarry has been owned and operated by a number of leaseholders over the last 30 years. Ablatio was fortunate to be able to apply and take over the lease some 15 years ago.

Ablatio Pty Ltd quarries dimensional sandstone from the Helidon area of South East Queensland. Ablatio employs experienced quarry personnel and trade qualified stonemasons.

Sandstone is quarried from a vast area covering the foothills at the back of Helidon and there are many quarries in operation. Due to the location and vast area the quality (hardness) and colour of the sandstone varies significantly. Ablatio is fortunate as the location of our quarry is on top of a seam of sandstone that is very hard (average hardness is 44MPA) and the colour ranges from a nutty brown to salt and pepper to purple and grey.

St John's Cathedral under constructionThe reason for taking up this lease was to ensure the supply of sandstone for the completion of St John's Cathedral, which is still under construction and is scheduled to be completed in 2009. St John's is a Gothic design which was designed by an architect by the name of Pearson some 100 years ago. Building commenced in 1906. St John's is located at 373 Ann Street, Brisbane and is open to visitors to view the design as well as the quality stone masonary work in both Sandstone and Porphry stone. The Cathedral is a fine example of the colour and quality of sandstone supplied by Ablatio. You will also notice the profile and carving of sandstone shapes in the many arches and columns, achieved by the use of Ablatio’s high tech cutting equipment and the masonry skills and expertise of the personnel.

Ablatio has focused on the supply of stone to the Cathedral for the past 15 years. The management team of Ablatio made a decision two years ago to expand the product offering and to increase the company’s market exposure.

The company can now offer a range of landscape product, building blocks, dimension stone and stone shapes cut to your design for walls, floors and just about any shape that you can imagine. More information on our product range is available under Products.

At Ablatio, our aim is to ensure that we remain a significant supplier of quality sandstone products, valued as a reducing resource and priced accordingly. We achieve this goal by offering a range of landscape products as well as worked stone for shapes and profiles. This offer is open to the Australian domestic and export markets.

Ablatio currently exports sandstone blocks to China. The block is cut into tiles for the external cladding of up-market town house developments. Australian Sandstone is preferred due to its strength and colour.
